just perfect.

this morning, after a big breakfast of eggs and turkey sausage and big homemade biscuits (with honey!) and a little date with a manicurist aaaaaaaand once mila went down for a nap and i was able to brew some tea, i followed my normal routine and sat at my computer without much on my agenda. so naturally i typed n-y-t-i-m-e-s-.-c-o-m and immediately saw this interview.

it had me smiling the entire time. yearning to be in the same room as ms. radziwill and listening to her answer sofia coppola's questions, mostly because i'd get to hear anything that might have been edited for the video. those little snippets of pictures and videos from ms. radziwill's younger days really got my mind going, such a different time back then.

it also had me thinking about those new york sirens in the background and how i wouldn't mind it so much if that was a little part of our background noise (especially since it seems to be such a foreign sound for mila, proof here). or for an itty bitty galley kitchen similar to this that we saw at ikea last weekend.

i love living close to my family and friends but ever since i was a wee one, living in new york has always been one of my dreams. not so sure it's going to be a dream come true for me but maybe. one day.

and hooray! we still have a whole sunday before monday and all its nastiness comes our way. ;)

and oh yeah, all of those books just on her end table reminding me to quit blogging, interneting, shopping, etc. and start reading some more. LOTS more. even if they are just coffee table books.

i should be.

reading a book on all the things i'm not supposed to be eating or doing while pregnant. or maybe even finishing my re-read of 'the leftovers' for the book club that i myself started. but instead i'm spending my time eating lots of things that i bought for mila from the grocery store the other day ((flax waffles times three, vegan "chicken" nuggets times more than i want to mention, and a mango)) and wishing that this were my address. but my belly is full and now i think i'll be able to muster up a little nap before the little one wakes. some photos from the last few days of ours.

lots of food and feet in our recent history.
happy tuesday

life as of late.

according to my iphone ( because the husband still hasn't brought the *good* camera home from his office ).

my brother's work :: homemade popsicles
rusty nails :: torn up feet
preparation for a wine/cheese night :: mila being the natural-born texan that she is
bagel eating at b&n :: the usual....mornings at starbucks

looking back through all of these pictures over the past few weeks really makes me realize what a great month we've had. although i can't believe it's almost over. august is bringing us lots of family birthdays, a trip home from uncle justin and hopefully somewhat cooler temperatures.

a busy week indeed.

last week the family packed our bags and headed to new york for a few days.

we spent a few lovely evenings over dinner with friends. one especially nice night at our dear friend jenny's wedding to her dapper new husband mr. eric. ate one too many cupcakes from café angelique. went here wayyyyy too much. experienced a very child-UN-friendly {but delicious} indian restaurant in tribeca. gave in to the locals' way of navigating the city with a soon-to-be toddler. and polished off the trip with a quick train ride to boston for a radiohead concert.

this was one adventure that i really wish didn't have to end but alas we are home {after a quick camping trip on the frio river during the second half of the week} and things are nearly back to normal. i.e. mila went to sleep at about 8:30 instead of the more recent bedtimes of 10:00 and even 10:30. so like i said, NEARLY back to normal.

happy monday!

going's on.

it's been pretty quiet over here at the gignac house. the calm before the storm i tell you. think we're all quietly and mentally preparing for the weeks ahead {nyc + frio river + baptism + first birthday}. until you're flooded with a bunch of pictures starring each of us in the aforementioned places, here's a little bit of what we've been up to.

nick turned that into this {thanks honey, after all of these years of living together, i finally have a pathway leading to our compost pile}:

all while enjoying fruits from the his garden.

but not without a little help from this one.

as per one of my recent posts, i don't have much to show for what i've been up to {especially since one is a *top secret* project i'm working on with a friend} not to mention nursing one sick case of food poisoning, but if you follow me here, you probably already knew that. all in all it certainly doesn't mean i haven't been busy. main priority: get invites to m's party out asap. or yesterday if that's at all possible. or just reverse time and tell me that my little baby isn't really going to be one whole year already. time machine, can you hear me?

happy monday!

my first.

mothers day that is. last year we missed it by just a couple weeks. and it's hard to believe that my sweet angel, in barely four weeks, will already be one whole year old.

every single day i am so happy to be called a mother. and more importantly, miss mila eleanor gignac's mother. of course nick did all he could yesterday to make sure that each mother in his life felt special and wanted and appreciated. mr. frugal even splurged for both a baby sitter AND a deep tissue massage por moi on thursday, cannot wait. thanks husband.

and thank you mila, even if you've become this baby that despises taking naps in her crib which therefore makes this a very tired mother. all in all i am still most certainly a very happy mother.

hope you mama's out there had a lovely one. i sure did.

even though.

two-thirds of the gignac house is still nursing a flu {cough-cough}, we weren't going to let that get in the way of some valentine's celebrations. the husband and i started the holiday a little early by going on a mini-date for some wine {still waiting for those anti-oxidants to start attacking this darn sickness} and picked up pizza on our way home. but todayyyy, mila is joining in on the fun and it's all valentine's gifts, lunches, and bowling balls from here!

2012.

has a lot to live up to.

we finally started to make this house a home. we met our future daughter for the very first time. nick and i hosted our first get together at this house. we met our state's governor {still not sure if this is something i REALLY want to remember from 2011}. i actually won something! we celebrated our first year of marriage together. i had a lot of fun playing with mila's first room. we celebrated an almost mothers' day. i impatiently waited for moo's arrival.

this kiddo finally decided to make her debut. the husband celebrated his first fathers' day. mila made her first of twenty-eight {yeah, we counted} plane rides

....and, appropriately, it was to see the aggies play. we returned to one of my favorite cities. i had some breastfeeding troubles but finally worked through them. we saw some friends get married and mila got to meet miss erika's little boy. my brother had a really great show in london. mila made a journey to the homeland.

and we polished it all off with a wonderful christmas and trip to the bahamas.

2011 was so good to us that i just can't imagine anything topping it. our little moo has brought so much joy to our lives every day and it just keeps getting better.

a little trip.

to central america.

now to finish some christmas shopping. followed by the inevitable wrapping. a ridiculous amount of time going to different family members' houses {we really do love every minute of this though. promise.}. one more trip. and then finally FINALLY a return to normalcy.

gotta love the holidays.

when i look back on it.

last week was a pretty busy week indeed.

from finally purchasing our christmas tree on wednesday and actually decorating it on saturday {thank you mila for the two-hour nap you took, it really helped out your mom and dad!}.

buying a classic seasonal treat for me to enjoy with my afternoon tea that i have been routinely drinking and LOVING lately.

then working off those christmas-shaped delights by running half of a half marathon...not quite my goal of a "half-marathon post-baby before the end of 2011", but close!

introduced mila to mr. claus. she didn't mind the red-suited man at first but quickly saw through the synthetic beard and decided she'd had enough. it was pretty obvious when she broke into a bloody murder scream. seriously, blue in the face shrieks. and i'm very sorry to the woman in line behind me, she told me to leave mila on the fake santa's lap because those pictures are "the best". i'm all about capturing the moment but i just couldn't sit there and not do anything, so i immediately saved her. mila, you'll thank me later.

and we even made a little update to m's room. an early sorta christmas present but at least now some of her books have a place to call home. and a pretty cute place at that.

seeterday.

he did this.

while we did this.

and now we do this {together}.

oh yeah, and somebody's a big girl now.

happy weekend!

Sunday, October 09, 2011

this is what our weekend looked like.

waking up to this cutie at the beach house after an all too delicious fish fry on FRYday night.

followed by a way too lazy saturday spent in white onesies {nick and i of course skipped the white onesies and stuck to sweatpants and t-shirts} listening to the husband serenading the babe on the geetar.

a reunion between me and some barbecued ribs that never tasted so good, thanks to THESE guys. evidence shown here.

and finally, after four months, as much as i hate to admit it, we took miss moo to her first church service.

since moving back to corpus, nick and i just haven't found a church that we REALLY like and feel comfortable in, albeit we haven't looked very hard. but i think we might have found our place at first united methodist. between the welcoming friendliness of the congregation, touching sermon and mila's new friend that adorned her with the lovely headpiece she's sporting, we will definitely be back next sunday.
to top it all off, i think i might have snapped my new favorite picture of this little family.

and now miss mila moo is asleep for a much-needed nap in her crib of all places!! {go m!} while her dad and i watch bridesmaids for the upteenth time {i love you ms. wiig}. yes, a good weekend was definitely had by all.

a few things i'm working on.

posture. because everytime i look at a picture of myself, i'm slouching and it just isn't doing anything for me. maybe me and this little booger need to have a few dates or i just need to make a couple stops by the yoga studio. either way, i'm on a mission.

quit dressing my daughter like a real housewife of new jersey when she goes to parties. love the top. love the swimsuit. love the hat {special gift from her cousin/pen pal}. but may just have to quit putting all three together.

let these two have more dates more often. and maybe one day, sooner rather than later, arrange a long overdue kansas city road trip so they can actually hang out together. you know, because justin needs a few beard tugs from his baby niece.

actually completing my daily to-do lists. i.e. the u.s. government thought mila's last name was spelled g-i-g-n-a-L and apparently it's MY responsibility to fix THEIR mistake. i've been putting it off and putting it off but i think today really is the day that i straighten the gov. out!

and finding a coffee table. R.I.P. the little gem at the bottom of this image that we sold in the garage sale a few weeks ago and hail to something new and wonderful to grace our hideously tiled floors.

so here's to getting things done!
