well.

i just haven't really felt like blogging. i've felt like running. and reading. and sometimes drawing. but not blogging.
however, here's a song that i'm liking while i run/read/draw/not blog.

Sunday, July 22, 2012

i don't care.

what they say. i still like this song. and these guys. especially when i'm running.

who knew.

that norah jones could get me moving in the gym.

loving this new song of hers. and this one by the lumineers didn't hurt either.

twisted ankles.

and wasp stings. and jelly fish stings. and runny noses. and sore throats. seriously, how am i supposed to motivate myself to run? but here it is. a little motivation.

still a little jealous that mr. gignac got to see these famous ohio-ans last week. just a little.

a few things.

that i'm really excited about.

first and foremost, can we all please celebrate the return of domino magazine? i have been seriously mourning the loss of this publication ever since news of condé nast shutting its domino doors years back. so you can imagine my excitement when i saw this:

excitement also expressed here and here and here

and another thing? you, mr. ward. oh how i have missed you. i love you and ms. deschanel together, but you and you alone are absolute perfection. xo

**yes, i realize that this video includes zooey, but so far, it's my favorite from the new album. so there**

and that's how.

6.60 miles became 7.

thanks, mr. havens, for making it happen. these guys didn't hurt either. they definitely made that stretch in between "i could easily quit right now" and "but i know i CAN run further" a little bit easier {and isn't the lead singer aMAZing? nick and i have spent too many times watching that video just trying to figure out exactly how she sings like that! seriously impressed over here. and maybe a little jealous of her talent. a little.}

SIXXXXXXX!

{miles, that is}. as most of you mamas know, getting in consistent, worthwhile workouts isn't the easiest task to accomplish when you have a kiddo on your hip most of the time. so even though i would lovvvvve for my mileage to be a little higher, i'll take what i can get. and OH YEAH, this is how i got through that glorious six miles.....

'king of diamonds' -motopony
'in sleep' -lissie
'daddy sang bass' -johnny cash
'and it stoned me' -van morrison
'helena beat' -foster the people
'sprawl II' -arcade fire
'lost in my mind' -the head and the heart
'heaven' -emeli sandé
'home' -she & him
'midnight city' -M83
'you've got the love' -florence + the machine
'such a lovely thing' -devotchka
'let me know' -yeah yeah yeahs {but you probably already knew that}

and this didn't hurt either....
...yep, that lasted for about eighty percent of the run. thanks M!

getting ready for the little avocado.

fifteen weeks and four days today. so far this whole pregnancy thing has been pretty smooth sailing. other than some all day minor headaches, i feel great. ever since my workouts have been able to get more consistent again, my days have gotten SOOO much better- amazing what a little sweat can do for your mind, body and heart.
this weekend was especially exciting because i finally got a new car!! after much very necessary research, nick and i chose the toyota prius. i've wanted a hybrid car for yeeeears and now i'm finally able to save this planet one mile at a time.

{my wheels}
now that i'm CONSTANTLY reminded by how my driving effects this planet it definitely has me reading loads more research about this green earth. treehugger usually has my attention and more often than not i get lost in the internet world from one of the fifteen million links that they have on the site. like the link i found to buy these.

{cuisinart greenware}
...at the price we got them for, i didn't expect the utmost quality. but on non-discounted sites, the price was pretty competitive and the reviews i read were all pretty good.
besides this renewed attention i'm paying to this planet, this has been my soundtrack for the lovely weekend i had.

'down by the water' by the decemberists
'and it stoned me' by van morrison
'ambling alp' by yeasayer
'little by little' by lay low
'spanish harlem' by aretha franklin
'unstoppable' {because that's what i am!} by santigold
'comment te dire adieu' by serge gainsbourg
'pagan angel and a borrowed car' by iron and wine
'love me two times' by the doors

although this wasn't the 'soundtrack' to my workout today {i usually get those from women's health or my tone it up girls}, it was still great-- a wonderful two mile jog followed by some abs and upper body!

what i'm listening to now.

my playlists constantly surprise people. while i appreciate well-talented musicians, i also run and workout a lot. any who runs can tell you that an acoustic singer-song writer just doesn't always put you through that final mile. soooo- sometimes we have to resort to some katy perry, jay-z or moby. i'm not saying that these people don't have 'talent'...but i wouldn't exactly say that it's music i like to put on a random playlist at a party with people i intend to keep as friends. so while this playlist might not have a recurring 'theme' per say. i can say, with confidence, that almost anyone can find at least ONE song from it that they like.

1. devil's in the jukebox - ray lamontagne & the pariah dogs
2. sail away - david gray
3. marathon - tennis
4. my own sinking ship - good old war
5. corona and lime - shwayze
6. girl, i'm gonna lay you down - animal liberation orchestra
7. in the colors - ben harper
8. you and your heart - jack johnson
9. pumped up kicks - foster the people
10. tighten up - the black keys
