going's on.

it's been pretty quiet over here at the gignac house. the calm before the storm i tell you. think we're all quietly and mentally preparing for the weeks ahead {nyc + frio river + baptism + first birthday}. until you're flooded with a bunch of pictures starring each of us in the aforementioned places, here's a little bit of what we've been up to.

nick turned that into this {thanks honey, after all of these years of living together, i finally have a pathway leading to our compost pile}:

all while enjoying fruits from the his garden.

but not without a little help from this one.

as per one of my recent posts, i don't have much to show for what i've been up to {especially since one is a *top secret* project i'm working on with a friend} not to mention nursing one sick case of food poisoning, but if you follow me here, you probably already knew that. all in all it certainly doesn't mean i haven't been busy. main priority: get invites to m's party out asap. or yesterday if that's at all possible. or just reverse time and tell me that my little baby isn't really going to be one whole year already. time machine, can you hear me?

happy monday!

a few things i'm working on.

posture. because everytime i look at a picture of myself, i'm slouching and it just isn't doing anything for me. maybe me and this little booger need to have a few dates or i just need to make a couple stops by the yoga studio. either way, i'm on a mission.

quit dressing my daughter like a real housewife of new jersey when she goes to parties. love the top. love the swimsuit. love the hat {special gift from her cousin/pen pal}. but may just have to quit putting all three together.

let these two have more dates more often. and maybe one day, sooner rather than later, arrange a long overdue kansas city road trip so they can actually hang out together. you know, because justin needs a few beard tugs from his baby niece.

actually completing my daily to-do lists. i.e. the u.s. government thought mila's last name was spelled g-i-g-n-a-L and apparently it's MY responsibility to fix THEIR mistake. i've been putting it off and putting it off but i think today really is the day that i straighten the gov. out!

and finding a coffee table. R.I.P. the little gem at the bottom of this image that we sold in the garage sale a few weeks ago and hail to something new and wonderful to grace our hideously tiled floors.

so here's to getting things done!

maybe this.

really WAS the last weekend before mil-ita decides to meet us.

friday night.

{yardarm}

{will always be a sucker for a good crab cake}

and saturday morning.

{instead of the gross pregnant girl in
the picture...focus on the gross tile
in our house that's about to change
very VERY soon}

woke up not wanting to even get out of bed but instead opting for a three-mile walk around the park and a pedicure to soothe my sore sore feet {and hopes that the manicurist hits a few of those magical labor-inducing pressure points just above my ankles}.

{re-reading a lovely book}

no, i don't pose for these pictures, i just have a husband who recently discovered how much he loves taking pictures. and since we spend about twenty-three of the twenty-four hours in a day together....i get to be his subject ninety-percent of the time. the other ten percent is devoted to his other love.

{de-grossing our backyard}

and so we wait.

on the surface it may look like i didn't get much done today {okay, maybe i didn't accomplish much beneath the surface either}, but all in all, today's day of waiting has actually been a pleasant one.

last night, nick and i went to his mom's house to make possibly the freshest salsa ever with loads of freshly-picked veggies from each of our gardens.

and today, when husband came home at lunch, he mowed the front yard while i micro-managed by eating some fruit curbside.

mind you, this is what our yard looked like when we moved in:

...pretty much burnt to a crisp.

then at about one, i felt something we haven't had for over a week now: cold air blowing through our vents. i do love the fact that on the sunny west coast and many parts of these beautiful united states, air conditioners are not necessary, but corpus christi is not one of those places. dry air and mild temperatures just don't exist here, it's humid and it's HOT. especially in the summer {which for us, ranges from about april to october}. so imagine my joy when i finally saw the complete installation of this

in our backyard. especially considering the fact that it's the most efficient system we could get and should cut our electricity costs by about sixty percent.

between all of the 'busYness' of today, i finally worked up an appetite that i knew only buckwheat pancakes could satisfy {and no, all of the above did not happen before noon arrived, my pancakes were definitely consumed riiiiight around three o'clock}.

i've made buckwheat pancakes from scratch before but today i just didn't have the energy, so i bought this mix from the store. it definitely needs a LOT of tweaking. i went by the instructions on the box and the only thing that got me through them {besides the fact that i was STARVing} was that lovely little bottle in the background of the last picture. sugar-free maple syrup, which makes just about anything taste better. especially oatmeal.

aaaaand, i may have watched last night's episode of 'the real housewives of new jersey'. i can't decide how much/little i like melissa {teresa's sister-in-law}, thoughts?

fighting the urge.

to stay in a yoga pant + t-shirt uniform and lay in bed all day.

{lulu and yerba mate}

instead, i'm going to try and focus on a few new sweetly-scented house plants.

{mexican jasmine}

{bedroom perfect lavender}

and some reminders that life is definitely blooming on our patio.

because even though, according to mrs. doctor, baby's 'due' date is june the ninth, i never really felt like that was the day she would come out and meet us. throughout this whole pregnancy i just knew she'd be here a couple days early, but as the ninth quickly approaches, it seems like baby mila just doesn't want to come out and we might be looking at a later birth date.

despite the eagerness to not be pregnant anymore, i really just want to meet our healthy baby girl. every night that i lay down, i hope that i'm awoken by some evil pain that tells me our baby will be in our arms in just hours. but each morning, i continue to wake up to the sun shining in my eyes and this little babe tucked warm inside my belly {and yes, i do know that the wonderful squirms of movement from my girl will be desperately missed once she's living on the outside}.

what i fear most is that our doctor won't be willing to work on miss mila's schedule and this whole labor/delivery snowballs into something so opposite of the natural delivery we hope to have. so please keep us in your prayers.

i certainly don't know when mila's alarm clock is set to go off, but i'm hoping it's sometime within the past five minutes.

happy monday!

last weekend before mila?

after about eleven years together {off and on during the lovely time period known as 'college'}, in possibly four days {maybe more...hopefully less}, nick and i will have a new addition to the family. and i think i speak for both of us when i say that our last weekend alone couldn't have been spent any better.

nick left work a little early and most of friday afternoon was spent working in the yard and cleaning the patio.

{cobweb-free patio}

{pollen-free deck}

{pruned garden}

{freshly mowed back yard}

and that night we enjoyed a lovely dinner at one of our favorite corpus restaurants {the yardarm}.

{love him}

{six days pre-'guess date'}

saturday, nick got an urge to clean out the pond that these little friends call home.

and later, my mom and i took a serious pregnant walk around the park a couple times.

{enjoying the CLEAN patio}

and now, sunday, i'm enjoying what could be the healthiest {and BEST} salad i've ever made.

{kale + freshly picked tomatoes +
cucumbers + sunflower seeds +
sesame seeds + poppy seeds +
shallots and lemon agave dressing...
with ak-mak crackers}

mila loves all of you.

just as much as i do {she just doesn't know it yet}.

i never was good at that whole 'waiting' game.

plus, after the husband so effortlessly put together the crib this weekend {thanks nick}, i was finally able to get some things on the walls. while it's not one.hundred.percent complete, baby mila's room made some serious progress this weekend.

although i've said numerous times that we're keeping our baby-buying purchases to a minimum,  these pictures don't quite seem to convey our approach. but actually, the only item we've purchased solely for mila's room is the crib {and mattress}. the 'alfabeto' print above the dresser is actually a gift from my mom that we plan to keep long after each of our children master their alfabeto. and as for the 'rocking chair of my DREAMS', that was a gift from nick's dad that of course we will ALWAYS have {thanks charles and ray for your timeless design}. other than that, the room just took a lot of painting, planning and reusing of furniture we had. i still have a few minor additions to the room {lamp, sheets for crib, etc.}, but so far, we're pretty proud of my stellar design skills.

in addition to her room, baby mila has a growing library that got a substantial jump-start as well.

{a little spanish practice to make 'lita proud}

i stuck with the classics.
