this morning, after a big breakfast of eggs and turkey sausage and big homemade biscuits (with honey!) and a little date with a manicurist aaaaaaaand once mila went down for a nap and i was able to brew some tea, i followed my normal routine and sat at my computer without much on my agenda. so naturally i typed n-y-t-i-m-e-s-.-c-o-m and immediately saw this interview.
it had me smiling the entire time. yearning to be in the same room as ms. radziwill and listening to her answer sofia coppola's questions, mostly because i'd get to hear anything that might have been edited for the video. those little snippets of pictures and videos from ms. radziwill's younger days really got my mind going, such a different time back then.
it also had me thinking about those new york sirens in the background and how i wouldn't mind it so much if that was a little part of our background noise (especially since it seems to be such a foreign sound for mila, proof here). or for an itty bitty galley kitchen similar to this that we saw at ikea last weekend.
i love living close to my family and friends but ever since i was a wee one, living in new york has always been one of my dreams. not so sure it's going to be a dream come true for me but maybe. one day.
and hooray! we still have a whole sunday before monday and all its nastiness comes our way. ;)
and oh yeah, all of those books just on her end table reminding me to quit blogging, interneting, shopping, etc. and start reading some more. LOTS more. even if they are just coffee table books.

a few tidbits from our weekend in the cold.
last week, the family spent a little much-needed time with my brother in kansas city. it was all sub-30 degree weather, great hair days, coffee drinking, museum visiting and everything we wanted it to be. not to mention a reminder of how bread is supposed to taste and a lovely farewell dinner here. we hope to go back soon {or that we will see uncle justin here in corpus in the very near future. hint, hint.}. but until then, we came home with a few kansas city goodies.
a wedding/baby gift from a very good friend :: new coffee table coasters
a *tidbit* that a certain little someone left behind
{also a sign that justin may miss us as much as we miss him}
until next time kansas city.

a bit of a stand still.
my bedroom and i just don't have a very good relationship these days. before we even thought about moving into our new abode, i already knew the exact color of bedding that i wanted: deep DEEP purple. i'm not usually one to start decorating a room based on color, but i really have no choice with this one. it seems that everyday our ugly gray floors inhibit the ways that i really want to furnish my home. with so many shades of gray in our house {tile floors, counter tops and black trip around the fire place}, i can't bring myself to add anymore of the dim color-- even though it's one of my favorites. so after much contemplation {and plenty of 'changing of the mind'}, i think i've decided on a color scheme, both modern and peaceful.
i definitely realize that images of my horribly mistreated and forgotten about bedroom would definitely help visualize what i'm working with, but let's just agree that it's bad....very bad. i absolutely love my big-person bed {king size, modern platform and beautiful light maple colored wood} but as far as what i've furnished the room with, that's where the love ends. so for now, until i turn it into the absolutely serene oasis it will become, let my inspiration be your images of what's to come.
and if we could actually afford one of my brother's photographs, i would definitely include this one {among others} over our bed.

k.c., mo.
if you're in the area this friday night, my brother and his girlfriend are having a show at the dolphin gallery. justin works in multiple mediums and continues to impress me with the pieces he comes up with. after graduating from goldsmiths in london, his work changed a bit but it is still equally as amazing as it was before his graduate studies. as for his girlfriend erika, she too majored in fibers at the kansas city art institute but mostly weaves. aside from the art she exhibits, she also makes lovely scarves. i'm not familiar with the work of the other two guys but from the images on the dolphin website, i would love to be able to make the show...unfortunately it's another houston weekend for the mister and me. until then, enjoy a little preview.

clearly have a lot of time on my hands today.
plus, after much thought of starting a blog, i have lots and LOTS to share. let's start this one with some work from my brother:
this is a photograph taken in what appears to possibly be south texas (all that burnt brush reveals its true identity). after producing a lot of what i call 'repeated' work (doing something over and over....strips of wood, cubes, dots, etc) and graduating from goldsmiths university london, i've noticed that much of his new work uses super-imposed man-made pieces into natural environments. and i love it. so go to his website, enjoy and appreciate his work.
